Milking pipeline

A pipeline which carries milk and air during milking and has the dual function of providing milking vacuum and conveying milk to a receiver

 

 

Milking pipeline (loop or ring)

A milking pipeline that forms an enclosed circuit with two full bore connections to the receiver.

 

 

Transfer pipeline

A pipeline which conveys milk to the receiver

 

 

Delivery pipeline

A pipeline in which milk flows under positive pressure from a releaser or releaser milk pump or recording vessel to a milk storage tank.

 

 

Recorder jar

A vessel, which receives, holds, and allows measurement of all the milk from an individual animal.

 

 

Milk meter

A device between the cluster and the milking pipeline for measuring an animal’s milk yield in a system that has no recorder jars.

 

 

Receiver

A vessel that receives milk from one or more milking transfer pipelines and feeds the releaser, releaser milk pump or collecting vessel under vacuum. Constructed of either glass or stainless steel, and holding between 27 and 275 litres of milk.

 

 

Releaser

A device for removing milk from vacuum and discharging it to atmospheric pressure.

 

 

Releaser milk pump

A pump for removing milk from vacuum and discharging it to atmospheric pressure.

 

 

Milk cock

A self-sealing valve to permit connection of units to the milking pipeline.

 

 

Milk flow sensor (detector)

A device between the cluster and the milking pipeline for detecting milk flow. This is used in conjunction with Automatic cluster removers. Usually combined with Milk meters in electronic systems.

 

 

Automatic cluster remover

A device consisting of a vacuum ram and milk flow sensor, which removes the cluster from the cow when she has finished milking.
